FCCLA State Convention

Members from the Hitchcock-Tulare FCCLA Chapter joined over 1,300 members, advisors, and guests who attended the South Dakota FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Leadership Conference held on April 24-26 at the Ramkota Convention Center in Sioux Falls. Members attended workshops, competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, and ran for leadership positions. “Cometry – Laugh & Learn” was a keynote speaker on Sunday night during the opening general session. On Monday evening during the second general session, awards and recognition were announced. Our local Hitchcock-Tulare Chapter was awarded with a bronze Merit Chapter Award.

On Tuesday morning results of the conference’s STAR Events participants were announced. Kori Tschetter and Kaytlyn Boomsma received a top superior-gold with their National Programs in Action project. Shanae Peterson, Trajan Fliehe, and Dawsyn Otto received a top superior- gold with their Focus on Children project. Kylie Gross, Erin, Barrie, and Ashlyn Otto received a silver on their Life Event Planning Project- Senior Trip. Tiana Gahm and Danielle Wright received a bronze with their Life Event Planning Project- Class Trip. Two local groups made it to run-offs and were competing to attend nationals on Monday evening. Kennedy Tomsha and Cassie Buchholz received a top superior-gold with their Focus on Children project “Fight On!” Payton Binger and Craig Mallon received a top-superior- gold with their Chapter Service Project Display project “Bump! Set! Spike!” Payton and Craig will be attending the National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California from July 1st to July 8th.  

FCCLA is the only youth-led organization with family as its central focus. Members learn how to be active community leaders, become caring family members, and prepare for life beyond high school.
